Michael is the Senior Advisor for Small Business on the White House National Economic Council. Prior to joining the Biden-Harris Administration, he served as the Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. While at the State of Illinois, Michael spearheaded the establishment of roughly $1 billion in COVID emergency relief programs for small businesses, nonprofits, and local governments. Michael also served as a policy advisor to Mayor Rahm Emanuel where he helped raise the minimum wage, create a free community college program for Chicago Public Schools students, and establish a microlending program for Chicago small businesses. Before working in state and local government, Michael served at the White House Office of Management and Budget and U.S. Department of Defense. Michael is a former U.S. Naval Officer and received his JD and bachelors degrees from Harvard Law School and Georgetown University, respectively. Michael lives with his wife Coral and children - ages 8 and 6 - in Arlington.
